Paranoia: Happiness is Mandatory
This project, based on the popular tabletop board game franchise, spanned two years of development, with me acting as lead programmer for the majority of that time. It was originally in development targeting Steam, Xbox One, and PS4, changing to the Epic Games Store down the line.
The game is a top-down squad based RPG, taking place in the city of Alpha Complex, a dystopian nightmare reminiscent of 1984 or Brazil, ruled by a tyrannical and extremely insane artificial intelligence known as Friend Computer.
I had a hand in pretty much every technical aspect of this game: AI, shaders, UI, localization, a number of different gameplay systems… I also led a team of up to 10 programmers, doing sprint plans and leading regular scrums. Though hectic at times, I have lots of fond memories working on this project.
Paranoia: Happiness is Mandatory is available on the Epic Games Store.
Before and after each mission you'd meet with Friend Computer. who'd inevitably chastise and occasionally vaporize your teammates.
The central hub area has lots of NPCs walking around, interacting with one another and objects in their environment. Many of these NPCs weren't scripted: they would choose random nearby objects and would even form queues with one another.
